Founder of Tall Girl Big World
Hiya, I’m Claire! I’m the writer and photographer behind Tall Girl Big World.
I started Tall Girl Big World as a study abroad blog in 2015 during my semester in Freiburg im Breisgau. Whenever someone asks about my experience living abroad in college, I often end my musings by saying “It’s the only place I’ve felt homesick for.”
What can I say? There’s just something about Germany that’s always captivated me!
My German language journey began in high school and continued through college, where I majored in Germanic studies. After graduating with my shiny new degree, I lived in New York City for three years while pursuing an editorial career at an up-and-coming food and lifestyle website.
After being laid off from what I thought was my dream career, I did some soul searching and realized that I’d left my heart overseas in Germany. I extensively researched the moving abroad process, discovered that Germany has a freelancer’s visa, and started my freelance writing and SEO business within a few weeks of losing my job.
In 2019, I moved out of my cramped NYC apartment and flew to Germany to begin my new life. Since moving to Berlin, I’ve transformed Tall Girl Big World into a Germany travel blog that shares the top places to visit in the country I now call home.
When writing my Germany travel guides (and yes, I write everything myself from scratch! No AI here), I always think back to what it felt like when I first moved to Berlin and was struggling to find detailed recommendations in English from people who actually lived here.
Because here’s the thing: There’s lots of Germany travel content floating around on social media and in the travel guides sold at big bookstores, but I actually live here! My recommendations come from years of lived experience, and I’ll never ever tell you to go somewhere or do something I myself have not personally vetted and loved. ❤️
