I went to bed Sunday night with a huge smile on my face. My weekend was the perfect balance of relaxing and exciting, and I saw so many friends from back home! I kicked off my Friday night with dinner at Eataly, which is an Italian market/restaurant (highly recommend you check it out! The Flatiron location has a Nutella bar, I’m just saying). My friend Kayla was in town for one day, and it was so good to catch up with her over an artichoke-laden pizza and a slice of lasagna as big as my face (splitting meals with friends is my fave).
After dinner, I popped back up to Chelsea for a Sofar Sounds concert with some of my city friends. Sofar Sounds organizes concerts with local musicians in people’s apartments and coworking spaces. This is the first concert of theirs I’ve been to and I loved it! It was my perfect Friday night—good music, laughs with friends, and the whole thing was over by 10pm.
On Sunday, I wound up exploring the Upper West Side a little bit. I had brunch at Jacob’s Pickles in January, and I told myself at the time that I’d explore the area more thoroughly once the weather warmed up a bit. The UWS is highly underrated, if you ask me. I feel like I never hear people talking about this area of the city even though it’s stunning. Seriously, every block is lined with picturesque town homes, and there are so many incredible restaurants here.
I started my day at the New York Historical Society, which is NYC’s oldest museum. I really enjoyed my visit; it was interesting to learn about major historic events like the Vietnam War through the lens of New Yorkers. Having grown up in Indiana, I don’t know a whole lot about recent east coast history, and I’m glad I finally made my way to this museum to learn a little more.
My friend Ellie was in town for spring break as well, so I spent the rest of the day with her. I hadn’t seen her in almost a year, and it was so good to catch up. We went through Chelsea Market (so many good eateries!) and walked the High Line back up to Midtown. We ended our night at Prince St. Pizza in SoHo—their pepperoni squares are arguably the best in the city. The line can be intimidating, but once a new pie is ready things move along quickly.
Somewhere in the middle of my exciting weekend plans I managed to file my taxes (finally!), but I won’t bore you with that.
I’m loving these travel diaries, are you? I promise I’ll have another tips and tricks article out soon. This week has been a bit manic, so I haven’t had time to finish writing it.
Tell me: What’s one exciting thing you did this weekend?
Signing off,
Claire
