From mid- to late-April, the famous “Cherry Blossom Avenue” in Teltow attracts nearly 20,000 visitors. Although this is the most popular spot to see cherry blossoms in Berlin, it can be a smidge confusing to find the cherry blossoms. Here’s how to reach the famous TV-Asahi Cherry Blossom Avenue + tips for your visit.

If you’re a die-hard cherry blossom enthusiast like me, you have to scootch your tushy down to Teltow this spring to see the 1.5-kilometer stretch of cherry blossoms planted along the Berlin Wall Trail.
Officially called the “TV-Asahi Cherry Blossom Avenue” in honor of the Japanese TV station that donated more than 9,000 sakura trees in 1990 to commemorate the reunification of the city, this is hands down the BEST place to see cherry blossoms in Berlin.
Like most cherry blossom sites in the city, Teltow’s cherry blossom avenue was planted along the former death strip — the area within the Berlin Wall’s fortifications where an estimated 100+ Berliners lost their lives while trying to flee East Germany.
Today the cherry blossoms are a sign of peace, which seems fitting for a city that was divided for nearly 30 years. The famous TV-Asahi Cherry Blossom Avenue was closed in 2025 due to damage to the soil from years of springtime visitors, but it’s set to reopen in 2026.
If you want to visit the cherry blossom avenue but are confused about how to get there and what to do once you’ve found the trees, keep reading! I’ve lived in Berlin for 7 years and I’ve visited this popular spot many times.
Happy cherry blossom season! ~Claire

How to Reach the Cherry Blossom Path (+ Map)
- Ride the S25 or 26 to “Lichterfelde Süd.”
- Exit the station and walk down Holtheimer Weg.
- Turn left on Ahlener Weg (you’ll pass by one or two pretty cherry blossom trees en route!).
- Keep going until you reach the cherry blossom avenue.
Claire’s Tip: From the S-Bahn station, you’ll need to walk roughly 10 minutes to reach the cherry blossoms. Trust me, you can’t miss them!
The Best Time to Visit

The exact bloom time of Berlin’s cherry blossoms changes from year to year depending on the type of winter we had. In 2025, the trees along the cherry blossom avenue didn’t reach peak bloom until the third week of April (which is very late for us!).
As a general rule of thumb, you can expect the cherry blossoms to be in bloom by the second week of April. Assuming we haven’t had a super warm spring, there should be blossoms on the trees at that point — whether they’re in the early, peak, or late blooming phase, I can’t tell you. (Sorry, I can’t predict the weather!)
Keep in mind that the variety of cherry blossoms that are planted at this particular avenue are late bloomers, so don’t bother visiting this spot in March since that’s a little too early in the season for them to make their grand entrance.
My Top Tips and Recommendations

- Weekends get very busy. Either plan to arrive as early as you can stand it (if you care about having lots of people in your pictures) or visit on a weekday for fewer crowds.
- Pack a picnic. With around 1,000 cherry blossom trees, the TV-Asahi Avenue offers plenty of space to spread out and relax. Just remember to pack a trash bag so you can bring everything back home with you!
- Keep walking the Berlin Wall Trail, if you have time! The Berlin Wall Trail (Mauerweg) has 14 sections, and the cherry blossom avenue is part of the 12-kilometer trail from Lichtenrade to Lichterfelde. I spent 2023/24 walking the Berlin Wall Trail with my friend Alice and found the entire experience fascinating. If you have the time and desire, click the link above for detailed instructions on this portion of the trail to walk it during cherry blossom season.
Where to See Cherry Blossoms Nearby

Most Berliners know about the famous cherry blossom avenue in Teltow, but not as many realize there’s another beautiful — and far less crowded! — spot to see a bunch of them not even 30 minutes’ walk away.
I’m talking about Lilienthal Park, which is where German aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal launched his gliders. His work was instrumental in helping the Wright Brothers plan, build, and launch the world’s first airplane.
Lilienthal Park is another great place to bring a picnic and relax beneath the vibrant pink branches of the cherry blossom trees. The entire park is planted with cherry blossoms, and the sight is truly spectacular!
